Herefordshire's Northern Villages
The Black and White Villages
Some of the Northern villages are a sight not to be missed with their quaint, timbered black and white cottages in a lovely rural setting. This very distinctive architectural style is much in evidence in the villages of Pembridge, Eardisley and Weobley as well as in the market towns of Leominster and Kington.
Around the Northern villages are a number of Manor Houses and Gardens which are open to visitors among them Burton Court stands a mile from the village of Eardisland and is a popular visitor attraction.
Here also is the Cider Country of Herefordshire - acre upon acre of rich cider apple orchards laden with fruit and giving just a mere glimpse of the major cider industry located in Hereford City where the world famous Bulmers cider is made and where factory tours are available.
There are many other smaller but well known cider makers in rural Herefordshire including Westons cider (Much Marcle) and other much smaller but equally good producers who also welcome visitors and where you can sample some of their produce. Herefordshire's cider industry produces over 60 million gallons every year.
